"History:

The story of the Baton Rouge International School began fifteen years ago when a group of educators decided to bring international education to Louisiana. This group conducted extensive research and studies on the subject and developed a rigorous multilingual curriculum based on international academic standards that expose children to global cultures through modern languages, technology and traditional academic subject area disciplines. The project gained huge support from many community and business leaders in the Baton Rouge area interested in innovative educational ideas that will benefit the children of Louisiana while living locally, thinking globally, and communicating wisely.

Baton Rouge International School (BRIS) was established in 1999 and opened its doors in the Baton Rouge area in 2000. A foreign language camp was held in June and the first school year commenced in August. The first phase of the academic program was a pre-elementary school (Preschool, 1, 2, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten). In 2001, the elementary school was initiated and a first grade was opened. In each following year, a new grade has been added. BRIS graduated its first class was in 2013.

The independent, non-profit school is in its 15th year of operation and is the only school in Louisiana to offer a full immersion program in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Chinese. The multilingual program along with technology education and a rigorous international curriculum enriches the lives of young learners of today helping them to understand other cultures and succeed in the global economy of the future.

Mission:

The mission of the Baton Rouge International School is to educate our children for the future, from preschool through 12th grade, by giving them the opportunity to master several foreign languages and technology, through a rigorous international curriculum which opens the doors to prestigious universities in the United States and abroad. Step by step, combining tradition and modernity, today's students will become tomorrow's leaders.

Philosophy:

Language is the instrument which links individuals to the world. Being able to communicate in a second, third or even a fourth language provides inestimable opportunities. It allows us to discover other peoples, other cultures and moreover, to understand our own identity. It is important that each individual acquire communication skills and develop cross-cultural understandings of the economic, political and social cooperation in an increasingly interdependent world.

The Baton Rouge International School emphasizes "multilingualism" and will build the foundations for learning oriental languages.

The acquisition of foreign languages occurs naturally through a variety of subject-area activities. This is the optimal setting for learning a foreign language. The acquisition of foreign languages through a structured and challenging curriculum prepares the child to play an important role in the 21st Century.

Vision:

The vision of the Baton Rouge International School (BRIS) is to develop a world-class educational institution that prepares students to be the multilingual global leaders of tomorrow by teaching them lifelong skills to successfully navigate in an ever-changing, interconnected, complex world. BRIS engages the community at large in an awareness of how its innovative and international education, measured by international standards and delivered within a sustainable modern green campus, will enable its socioeconomically and culturally diverse students to compete on a global level, thereby positively impacting our city, state, nation and ultimately the world.

Master Plan:

BRIS recently completed a comprehensive campus master plan design to build larger buildings to serve as administrative, educational and recreational facilities for the future. The design and planning is consistent with the Baton Rouge Plan for "smart growth" in the area and reflects the innovative education that BRIS provides through contemporary and environmentally sustainable architecture.

The goal of the BRIS is to build a full campus that will house preschool, elementary, middle school and high school students. The funds raised in the next few years will help finance the construction of a gymnasium, auditorium and additional classrooms in order to meet the overall campus needs."
