HL Spanish

Stereotypes

Hello everyone!

These past few weeks in Spanish class, we've been talking about the different stereotypes a person has because of their nationality. We mainly focused on the ones appointed to Spain and my home country, Mexico. Throughout this unit, we learned that not all stereotypes are true and not all are entirely false. We can conclude that some stereotypes are true but to some extent. What makes them false is that they are often exaggerated or changed throughout time, kind of like the game "telephone". We also learned that some things that are thought to represent an entire country are often only found in some regions. For example, when you think of Spain you might think of bulls. Actually, bulls are usually only found in the south of Spain - not the entire country! To conclude our unit, we presented an oral presentation about stereotypes and watched a video that gave us great testimonies regarding national stereotypes. As a word of advice, think twice before you label someone!

This is the video Ms. Aline (my awesome Spanish teacher) showed us to help us understand how stereotypes are often national! P.S. I hope you speak Spanish!;)

P.S. The video is only available on a computer!
