Edgar Allen Poe
Hi Everyone!Ohh how I love to read Edgar Allan Poe's poems and stories because they're so mysterious and captivating. Poe is an American writer, critic and editor. The reason I write about him today is because I was rereading one of his short stories called the Tell Tale Heart. I've read it many times but I can never get enough; it's so heavy and amusing to me. Poe's tales are of mystery and horror. You may know him by his most famous short story: The Raven. This story is numbered one of the best and well-known poems today in national literature. His creative talents actually led to the many different genres, earning him the nickname "Father of the Detective Story". I would tell you about his life but it's quite the mystery. In fact, it has been blurred extensively since his death. From what I've read, Poe has never really known his parents, he was separated from his siblings, and he lived in Virginia for awhile with two family members who were tobacco merchants with whom he never really got along with. After awhile, he was married to a women named Elmira, but she left Edgar for their next door neighbor. Although, later in life, he remarried. Around the time of his death, Poe was hit with depression from the death of his beloved, Virginia Poe. He continued to write, but he had bad health and struggled financially. His final days remain a mystery, which makes me like him and his work even more. He left Richmond on September 27, 1849 and was supposedly on his way to Philadelphia. On October 3rd, Poe was found in Baltimore suffering. He was taken to Washington College Hospital where he died on October 7th. His last words were reported to be, "Lord, help my poor soul."At the time, it was said that Poe died of a brain congestion, but the actual cause of his death is unknown and speculated. Some people believe it was alcoholism, rabies, epilepsy and carbon monoxide poisoning that killed him, but it's still unknown. His tales are a thrill to read and I certainly recommend that you read them. Especially my favorite, The Tell Tale Heart.
Let me know what your thoughts were about it!
