Creating Political Cartoons
Hi Everyone! So this week, I'm going to share my political cartoon with everyone! I know that it may look a little weird right now, but that's only because I'm not completely done coloring it. And the reason I only have their shirts colored is because I wanted y'all to know who's who in this cartoon without having to write it all out.
So anyway, this was something our history teacher, Ms. Andrea, assigned us after going over the Treaty of Versailles and the Paris Peace Conference for what seemed like an eternity. And now you're probably wondering if this is about the Treaty of Versailles and all that, then why are there girls sitting a table telling another girl that she can't sit with them? And why are they all wearing flags? Well, that's because political cartoons usually use some unique way to express an issue without directly stating it. For example, mine uses the iconic Mean Girls scene, where one of the girls says "You can't sit with us", as a way of comparing the high school hierarchy to the way events unfolded at the Paris Peace Conference. It may not be completely legible, but that little card at the corner of the table says: "Reserved for The Big Four". And that is who is represented by the girls who are sitting at the table: Italy, France, Great Britain, and the United States. As for the person standing, she represents Japan, the nation that was in the Council of Five but part of the "Big Four".
So what does this all mean? Well, at the Paris Peace Conference, prime ministers and representatives from Italy, France, Great Britain, the United States, and Japan came together to make all of the serious decisions and called themselves the Council of Five. However, decisions weren't being made. This lead to the creation of the Council of Four, or the Big Four, thus Japan was left out.
I hope this makes sense to all of y'all and don't worry, a fully colored version will be up in no time. And are y'all as stoked as I am? Y'all can finally see my artwork!! Got any comments, questions, requests? Leave them in the comments section below! Until next time.
