Natural Science Unit
Unfortunately, we only have a few more days of break until we have to return to school... Thankfully, though, we have something to forward to. Since we just finished discussing history, our TOK teacher let us choose our next unit! No, I take that back. He only let us pick between math and natural science (obviously we picked natural science!). Subsequently, he introduced us to the topic by explaining that science uses inductive methods to research and explore knowledge. For example, when researching, you must take observations, notices patterns, and develop theories. This idea of the "bottom-up" approach used in science juxtaposes the deductive reasoning used in math. For example, you might look at an equation and then take time to understand what makes it valid.Anyway, here're some fun science quotes to think about.
"But in science the credit goes to the man who convinces the world, not to the man to whom the idea first occurs."
Francis Darwin
"Science is not only a disciple of reason but, also, one of romance and passion."
Stephen Hawking
"The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers, he’s one who asks the right questions."
Claude Lévi-Strauss
The definition of natural science.
