HL English - Language and Literature

George Orwell's "1984"

Hi Everyone!

In our HL English Language and Literature class, we have been jumping from one topic to the next. Just last week, we took a practice Paper 1 exam where we had to analyze two texts within a short period of two hours! That was intimidating because we never really felt the pressure of producing a high quality essay in such a short time. But, there's no need to worry because we have over a year to suppress our anxiety and improve our writing skills! Now, we have returned to reading an interesting book called "1984", written by George Orwell. This weeks assignment was to read 30-or-so pages of the book and take a quiz in 3 days! Therefore, we have to make sure to plan ahead carefully, so that we won't cram reading and revising in the same night. So, I developed a method of my own that has helped me do well on reading comprehension quizzes in the past. What I do is I take sticky notes and place them on the pages that I believe have valuable information that I will need to remember for the test, or even for any future papers I have to write. Next, I write the page number of the important information on the sticky note. Then, I bullet point all of the important information on a loose sheet of paper and make sure to include the page I found it on. Later on I will be able to refer to that loose sheet of paper, find the piece of information I am looking for, and quickly access it due to this method!

Here is a picture of my copy of George Orwell's "1984"!
