Textiles Project
Hi Everyone!
Lately in Visual Arts SL
we've been working a project based on textile patterns. The whole purpose of
our textiles project is to create a costume or outfit design and find the
materials/fabrics we would like to use for a costume or outfit design. Of
course, everything is drawn out in our sketch books so we can keep up with
everything we've done. Once we've finished our costume or outfit design, we must
design a textile pattern/woven piece (think of it as a logo). Then, we must decide where we would place our textile/woven piece on our outfit/costume design . Once again, everything is drawn out but
nothing is actually created (we don't actually bring our design ideas to
life). Our final piece is the
textile pattern/woven piece that we must make out of yarn with the color of our
choice and our outfit/costume design. For example, here's mine :
(Left to Right): My outfit/costume design and my final woven piece
Above represents my textile project. I would place
my textile pattern/woven piece on the breast pocket of my outfit design and
those would be the colors and materials/fabrics of choice I would use. Since I
have finished my textile project, I am now working on a comparative study which is
something you have to complete once you've done a project. This is what the students of Visual Arts SL art
currently working on. Also, our comparative study does not have to relate to
our most recent project (textiles). We can choose anything/anyone we want,
which makes a comparative study hard: having the free range to choose who and
what you want instead of your teacher telling you who and what to do. However,
it is exciting because doing a comparative study is like studying Art
History.
*Remember: Always ask questions when you aren't sure of something. I say this because I was very confused about a comparative study. I almost did a comparative study on six pieces of art works because I thought I was supposed to choose three per artist, but no it was one per artist. I would've probably had to pull an all-nighter if I didn’t confirm the assignment with my teacher.
